I got to experiment with some color in my hair with the Redken Color Rebel hair makeup! Keep reading for pictures, product info, and my thoughts!
I love my Redken Extreme Anti-Snap, so when I was given the chance to try this hair makeup from Redken, I was pretty intrigued. The only other time I’ve put any sort of temporary color in my hair (not counting dye) was when I used hair chalk (from a different brand). The hair chalk didn’t last nor did it show up very well in my dark hair.
This hair makeup is much different than chalk. It coats your hair with creamy color that is designed to last a few days without rubbing off. It’s applied easily with a sponge applicator and comes out in a couple of washes. The makeup is supposed to hold up through brushing, straightening, and blow-drying along with being resistant to water. There are a total of 5 colors to try! The colors I got were Red-y to Rock (red) and Purple Riot (purple).
Application
Use Color Rebel by taking sections and applying it to your hair in smooth sweeping motions. You can build up the color as much as you’d like or keep it subtle.
Observations
I tested the hair makeup twice. Here are some observations:
- It dries quickly
- It shows up on dark hair.
- It provides a temporary way to wear fun colors in your hair.
- It doesn’t come off on clothes or bedding.
- It showed up really well in the sunlight.
- On my dark hair, red was more vibrant and purple was more subtle.
The first time I wore it in my hair, I applied the colors in a bunch of sections all over. My hair got really frizzy, tangled, and unmanageable for several days. Then when I wore it a second time, I only applied it in a couple small areas and it was much easier to handle. It still got a little tangled, but nothing like before. It took about 4 days for my hair to lose all of the color and return to normal.
Overall, it was cool to be able to add some color to my hair for a few days. I didn’t love that it became so unmanageable though, so I’ll only use it on small sections in the future. I think it would be fun to do the tips of my hair next time!
Suggestions
Here are a few tips if you decide to try it out yourself:
- Make sure to brush your hair really well before applying.
- Use gloves! The first time I didn’t use any and it was hard to remove it from my hands.
- Start with small sections for the first time to see how it wears in your hair.
- If you want more color intensity, apply the color, let it set and dry for a few minutes, then apply more.
Now that you know all about Color Rebel, will you be trying it?
