You might already have a blog or maybe you’re just starting out, but it’s always good to be open to advice no matter what level you’ve reached. I’ve been blogging for awhile and have learned a lot about improving my blog. I’ve put together some basic tips on blogging to share with you and hope that you can share some in return. Here are 7 blogging tips for new bloggers.
7 Blogging Tips For New Bloggers
- Create your own style
- Add pictures to your posts
- Structure your posts for easy reading
- Proofread and edit your posts
- Look at other blogs
- Collaborate with other bloggers
- Promote in multiple places
Create your own style
Play around with different fonts, backgrounds, and colors but remember not to go overboard. Busy backgrounds, bright colors, and crazy fonts can be distracting and make it hard to read. You want your blog to be easy on the eyes. Simple layouts are best to use.
Add pictures to your posts
This makes your blog more appealing. People love to look at pictures. I would suggest taking your own pictures unless you have permission to use someone else’s photos. You could encounter legal issues if you use images from Google or other sites without the owner’s permission. You can also buy stock photography or use royalty-free images from sites like Pixabay or Pexels.
Structure your posts for easy reading
It’s okay to have long-form content – it’s great for SEO! Many readers will skim your content though. They’ll look for the main points and pictures over everything else. Make sure to organize your content with headings, bullets, and numbered lists for people to easily navigate each area.
Proofread and edit your posts
Write out a rough draft and then leave it alone for awhile. Come back later to read through it and make corrections. It will be easier to catch mistakes. It’s good to even read it through a few more times or have someone else read it. It may make sense when you’re writing it, but other people may not read it the way you intended.
Look at other blogs
You’re not doing it to copy them, but it helps to see what other people are doing with their blogs. You can learn so much from their layouts, branding, content, etc. Also take a look at their social media to see what kind of things they post and share to their audience.
Collaborate with other bloggers
Not only can you promote each other’s content, but you can also share tips with each other about what’s working for your blogs. You can even join a group of bloggers to collaborate with. This is how I learned the most about blogging in my early days.
Promote in multiple places
Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket when it comes to your promotion efforts. In this field, nothing lasts forever. You may have tons of traffic from a particular source one day and lose half it the next. Algorithms change frequently, which means your content may not be promoted the same way or as frequently as it once was. Share your posts across multiple social media sites and learn about SEO to get traffic from Google.
Final thoughts
Above all, take your time. Blogs don’t become successful overnight. It takes a long time, sometimes even years. Don’t compare yourself to others who already have established blogs with large followings. They started where you are now and they put in the time and effort to get where they are. You’ll get there too!
