March is coming to and end and we’ve already jumped headfirst into Spring. Before we completely bid March farewell, I’ve got a beauty box battle to settle: Birchbox vs. Ipsy – March edition. Who will win in this month’s showdown?
Birchbox vs. Ipsy – March
Birchbox
Liz Earle | Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit
A 2-step skincare system. First, you remove makeup and dirt with the cleanser. Then, you follow up with the muslin cloth to purge dead skin cells. Skin is left soft, smooth, and radiant. I haven’t used this little kit yet, but I’ll give it a whirl. I’ve found some really great skincare products that work well for me, so I doubt I’ll be wanting the full-size. It doesn’t hurt to try it though.

It’s a 10 | Miracle Leave-In Product
A multibenefit leave-in product that repairs damaged hair, adds shine, controls frizz, detangles, prevents split ends, stops hair breakage, and more. It can be used on wet or dry hair. I was able to pick this product for my box this month. I chose this treatment because I’ve used it before and I loved it. When I was using it before, I noticed my hair was more manageable and had less dry ends. This is a great sample size, basically a travel-sized product. I’ll definitely get a full size of this.
$18, itsa10haircare.com
Elite Therapeutics | Rosemary Eucalyptus Body Creme
A velvety lotion that nourishes and soothes skin with 70% organic ingredients. The lotion feels great on my skin, but I can’t get past the scent – it’s awful. It’s like a mixture of a herbs, lemon, incense, and a thrift store. I think it’s safe to say that I won’t be touching the full size with a 10 ft. pole.
Roloxin Lift | Revitalizing Facial Treatment
A mask that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and pores. The results last up to 24 hours. I don’t have an issue with wrinkles (yet!), however, my pores could use some help. This will be nice to try a couple of times, but I cant see myself spending $110 for a full set.
Set of 10 – $110, roloxin.com
Jelly Pong Pong | Glow Getter Highlighter
A pearlescent oil-free gel highlighter. I had a similar product a long time ago. I didn’t like it and never wore it. I tried this one out today as I was doing my makeup and had the same feelings. I don’t like that it’s so shimmery and it doesn’t quite look right with my tan skin. I think it draws more attention to my flaws too. I definitely prefer a powder highlighter.

Ipsy
Chella | Ivory Lace Highlighter
Full size!
A highlighting pencil that’s ideal for the brow bone and dark circles. It can also be used to highlight other areas of the face, like the cupid’s bow and down the center of the nose. I love pencils like this! I always use them under my brows and in the inner corners of my eyes.
$18, chella.com
skyn ICELAND | Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels
Gel patches that are applied under your eyes for 10 minutes to brighten as well as reduce puffiness and wrinkles. I like that I was given two packets so that I can try them out twice. I don’t have any major under-eye issues, but I’m still interested in seeing how they work.
8 pairs – $30, skyniceland.com
NYX Cosmetics | Butter Lipstick in Pops
Full Size!
A mauve shade of creamy lipstick. I like NYX lipsticks because they’re super inexpensive, come in a good variety of shades, and look nice on the lips. This particular shade looks good on me and has a natural appearance. I already own a few Butter Lipsticks, but this is not one of them. I’ll continue to buy them too.
$6, nyxcosmetics.com
ACURE | Day Cream
A vegan cream to help fight the signs of aging. It can be applied to the face, neck, and chest. This cream smells exactly like a fresh, juicy orange. On top of that, it feels really nice on my skin. This is 100 times better than the body creme in my Birchbox!
$18.99, acureorganics.com
Pixi by Petra | Mesmerizing Mineral Duo
A mineral eyeshadow duo in Apricot Glow, made exclusively for Ipsy. One side is a light peach hue and the other is a rustic brown. They both have high pigmentation and blend well together. They’re beautiful! I’ll like wearing this duo in Summer. Two thumbs up for eyeshadows in my subscriptions!
Battle Breakdown
Birchbox presented me with only a couple of products that I was truly interested in. The best part was the sample I chose myself, It’s a 10. Otherwise, I was a bit underwhelmed this month. I am liking that Birchbox is giving options every month though. You can pick preselected boxes (downside: you’ll already know what you’re getting) or you can choose one sample that will be guaranteed to show up in your box. Of course, you can also opt to not choose anything and let the whole deal be a surprise. Also, I have about $70 to spend in the Birchbox shop just from my accumulated points, so I’m excited to sit down and pick out some products. Then, there’s Ipsy. I pretty much liked everything in my bag and will use all of it. I’m most excited for the NYX Butter Lipstick, the Pixi eye shadow duo, and the Chella highlighter.
Who Wins Birchbox vs. Ipsy – March?
I’ve got to give it to Ipsy this month! My bag was curated perfectly.

Shawna | The Modern Musings says
I have been debating between the two boxes and after reading several of your reviews I am leaning way towards Ipsy! I love that it’s more cosmetics based and it seems most of the products are full size. I love NYX so it would be a good investment! Thanks for the in depth comparisons!

No problem Shawna! I’m glad my reviews helped you. Ipsy has been the best, especially for the price. I do seem to get a lot of makeup and full-sized products.

I’ve never had done birchbox. I definitely loved what I got for my Ipsy bag.
