Sometimes when our hairstyles are lacking, adding volume can be the perfect fix. There are different ways to add volume to hair, but I bet you didn’t know about this one!
The Voloom is a hot tool that you use to add volume to your hair instead of using other products. It’s not used like a flat iron or curling iron. It’s completely different and used only on hidden layers of hair. Before I get into how it’s used, I’ll show you what comes with it and all of the features of the iron.
When you purchase a Voloom, you get:
- Voloom iron
- 3 hair clips
- brush for parting and sectioning
- heat-resistant mat & travel pouch
- user’s guide
About the iron
- It has plates with beveled platforms that lift hair up and away from the scalp. It reminds me of a waffle iron!
- The digital display shows the temperature. When it’s heating up, you can see the number increasing until it reaches the temperature you selected. The starting temperature is 220 F and it goes as high as 390 F.
- The +/- buttons allow you to adjust the temperature. The middle button is the power button. For those that tend to leave hot tools on (we’ve all done it!), the Voloom shuts off automatically after 30 minutes of non-use.
- 8 ft swivel cord
- Locking mechanism makes it easy to travel
How to use it
I’m sure by now you’re wondering how the heck you’re supposed to use this iron. While it looks similar to a flat iron (not counting the plates), it’s not used the same way. You don’t run it through your hair at all. Instead, you’ll be clamping down on sections for a short amount of time.
First, you unlock the iron and turn it on. You select the temperature you want to use and let it heat up. It’s very quick and in the user guide, you can find out what temperature is recommended for your hair type.
You won’t be using the Voloom on the very top layer of hair, the front pieces, or the ends. You want those areas to look smooth. So after clipping your top layer to the side, you’ll begin using your iron on the next layer down. You take sections of hair, clamp the Voloom down for just 1 second, and then work your way down the section to the cheek bone level. You can clip that layer to the side and move to the next layer, until it’s all done.
My experience
I love that the iron came with clips and a comb. It makes things very convenient. The clips work really well too! I was surprised by how well the Voloom works. I was totally unsure about it at first, but it was easy to use, it didn’t take long, and it actually added a lot of volume to my hair.
You can really see the difference there. There were imprints where I used the iron, but they remained mostly hidden away.
I wasn’t certain that the volume would last all day – it did! I didn’t have to use any products to hold it there or anything. Even after sleeping on it, the volume was there the next day too. I’ve been using this tool pretty often with different hair styles and I’m really liking it! It’s so quick and easy to use and it actually works. This is an awesome product.
