I’m definitely late on this post given that it’s already October, but I received my September Birchbox a little late last month. Sometimes it comes early and sometimes it comes late. Once the package got to my area, it took a solid week to get to me even though it was less than an hour away! It was quite frustrating.
So, back to my box. I was happy with the contents and luckily I haven’t received anymore food samples because those really are just a waste on me.
There was a fall lookbook included in September’s box that featured 10 fall beauty trends. It’s like a little magazine. I really like that they added that in. Also included was a $25 gift card to Madewell (clothing store). The catch is you had to spend $75 to get the $25 – to me that isn’t really a gift card. It’s a decent offer if you plan to shop there though.
Now for the samples….
What came in my box
BVLGARI Mon Jasmin Noir
Full size: $47-83
This is a floral, musky scent. Notes include Lily of the Valley, Jasmine, and wood.
My thoughts: I seem to get a perfume sample in every box. They’re nice but I have way too many now. With that being said, this is an okay fragrance, however, it’s not my type of scent at all. It’s more of a mature fragrance to me. It has a musky, spicy scent and I prefer fruity, fresh scents. I would not purchase the full size.
Color Club Birchbox Custom Polish
Full size $8
Birchbox teamed up with Color Club to create their own polish colors that have names inspired by social media. There are 4 colors: Put a Pin In It (rose gold), Status Update (dark grey), Tweet Me (chartreuse), and Insta-This (cobalt blue). I received Insta-This in my box.
My Thoughts: I love that I got the blue shade! It’s gorgeous on the nails and applies nicely. It reminds me of Sally Hansen Pacific Blue but is a little deeper.
Here it is on my nails (two coats):
Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25+
Full size: $32 (1.7 fl oz)
A tinted BB cream that also acts as a moisturizer and a sunscreen. It hydrates skin and covers imperfections.
My thoughts: I love BB creams and this one adjusts to my skin tone well. The sample size is enough for me to use a few times to determine if I want the full size. The price doesn’t seem bad for this kind of multi-tasking product.
LiQWd Professional Volumizing Catalyst
Full size: $22 (150 ml)
You use this spray to give your hair body and moisture. The directions advise you to spray 10-20 times in towel dried hair and then blow dry.
My thoughts: I like this product so far. It didn’t make my hair feel crunchy or sticky. My hair seemed to be a little more full, but I didn’t notice a dramatic increase in volume. I’m not sure if I would buy it or not.
twistband Birchbox Custom Lace Hair Tie
Set of 6-12 $14-22
These are soft, elastic ties for your hair that won’t snag or cause creasing.
My thoughts: I got one of these elastic ties in a previous box. I like the idea of them, but they don’t stay in my hair very well. I’ve seen them in stores and all over the place, but I don’t think I would buy any of them. They’re just a piece of stretchy fabric.
EXTRA
LiQWd Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner
Full size: $24 each (350 ml)
These two products are both designed to add moisture and volume to your hair.
My thoughts: I was only given one packet of each product and that allowed me one use. It wasn’t enough for me to tell how well either product worked, but my hair did turn out nice the day I used them. Considering this was my extra, I wasn’t upset that I didn’t get a bigger sample. I just wouldn’t buy it based off of one use.
Overall, my box wasn’t bad. My favorite item was the nail polish. I think it’s a gorgeous shade of blue that I will keep using. My least favorite product was the fragrance. I’d like to not see anymore perfume samples in my boxes for awhile. I was a little surprised that I got 3 products from the same brand. That usually doesn’t happen, but it also didn’t bother me. I still like Birchbox very much and will continue with my subscription.
